Revising an Administrative Letter Assignment
Go to a modern administrative letter
and read it carefully.
Write a report consisting of the following parts.
Introduction: Explains the purpose of the report and previews the parts of the report.
Body:
- A copy of the original letter. Copy and and paste the letter into a Word document
- An analysis of the letter's rhetoric that answers the following questions:
- What message is it trying to convey?
- What action is
it asking for?
- How do the paragraph structure, sentence structure, and word
choice facilitate or obstruct the communication?
- What tone comes through?
- What response do you think a typical reader is likely to have?
- A revision of the letter. Type in your revision of the letter on a new page in the same document. You should not only make the letter more readable structurally but also revise it rhetorically so that it is more likely to get a cooperative response.
- Justification for changes. Below your revision, enumerate the changes you made and explain
why you think the changes improvements.
Conclusion: Summarize your argument and explain the rhetorical lessons involved.
